How Long Does Permanent Makeup Last?
One of the most frequently asked question I get is: how long will my permanent makeup last?
Permanent makeup can last up to five years (or more) depending on your body chemistry and the procedure. Yes, the term is "permanent" since we are depositing the pigment into the skin, but over the span of decades, our industry has evolved tremendously! We still use classic techniques but the pigments now are meant to fade.
Here is the catch: it is the clients personal preference whether they want to come earlier or later. Some people don’t mind the faded look, some people really want the full look 24/7 (🙋🏻♀️). Think about your hair as an example. Are you the type to let your roots grow out or do you go frequently because you want to cover your roots?
I tell my clients, if you find yourself drawing in your eyebrows more than 30% on top of your tattoo, then it's time for a touch up.
Also please keep in mind that your daily activities along with skin condition will play a big role in the longevity of the permanent makeup! Some examples include:
- combination/oily skin
- daily skin routine (does it include retinol, or any exfoliating products?)
- how often you go to the gym/sweat
- how long you are exposed to the sun
- frequent facials
